Directly inspired by our success in Fomula–1, the Type R’s 2.0 litre i–VTEC petrol engine delivers a truly breathtaking performance.At cruising speed, the engine draws enough fuel and air to maintain power. But hit the gas and the lightweight intake valves open wider, for longer, sucking in more of the fuel/air mixture to give an instant surge of power and that legendary Type R acceleration — 0–62mph in 6.6 seconds. But it’s our obsession with extracting the maximum performance from every component that makes Type R truly unique — from the low–fiction high compression pistons to a larger diameter exhaust system.Free revving, ferociously powerful, yet remarkably compliant and refined, i–VTEC is the heart, soul and voice of every Type R.

 Nothing should hold you back when driving the Type R. To perform to the best of your abilities, you need complete confidence in the safety capabilities around you.
Honda understands this. That’s why we built our own test facility at Tochigi — the biggest, most advanced crash test centre in the world. Here, we’ve been able to develop essential safety features for Type R. This includes an upgraded suspension system, powerful brake calipers, active headrests to minimise whiplash, Anti–lock Braking System, Vehicle Stability Assist, and front, side and curtain airbags.
