Described by Honda as the car that will redefine the B-segment market in the UK, the all-new Honda Jazz is just weeks away from its official release. Following the model's arrival in 2001, the Jazz has become a firm favourite with supermini fans. More than five million units have rolled off the production line and it's estimated that a high proportion of Jazz owners are repeat buyers.
The good news for those anticipating the upcoming release is that the new Honda Jazz has played to its recognised strengths and built on what was already a convincing package. A longer wheelbase means a more spacious cabin, while the exterior benefits from sleeker contours and a fresh new look.
While the model's distinctive silhouette remains, the new Jazz features stronger character lines and a redesigned front end that includes a solid wing grille, common to new Honda models. The sporty, dynamic look is accentuated by the car's sculpted side panels, tailgate spoiler and angular rear combination tail lights. Buyers will be able to choose between three trim levels, and also select from a host of new colour schemes.
At almost 10cm longer and 3cm wider, there's plenty of space available for driver and passengers inside the cabin, including more than 11cm of extra legroom for rear seat occupants. A centre-mounted fuel tank also makes for a roomier interior, while Honda’s Magic Seats ensure total flexibility and versatility. The 354-litre boot extends to provide an impressive 897 litres of space once the 60/40 split rear seats are lowered.
The use of premium materials including a sophisticated black soft-touch dash and chrome finishers creates an inviting space, while air conditioning comes as standard. The layout is functional and includes plenty of clever storage spaces that will make the Jazz exceptionally easy to live with. The entry-level model comes equipped with a five-inch LCD audio display, while higher spec trims offer a seven-inch Honda Connect infotainment touchscreen plus steering wheel-mounted audio controls.
Powering the Jazz is a new 1.3 litre i-VTEC petrol engine, capable of producing 102PS for a punchy and responsive drive. Compliant with Euro 6 emissions standards, it keeps CO2 emissions down to 106g/km and offers improved efficiency of up to 61.4mpg combined. Two new transmissions are available to provide smooth power delivery, while upgraded, lighter suspension and Honda's Agile Handling Assist technology helps deliver a nimble and dynamic driving experience.
Numerous new safety features are included as standard with the new Jazz, including an automatic braking system designed to prevent low-speed collisions. Advanced technologies include forward collision warning, traffic sign recognition and lane departure warning systems.
