Japanese carmaker, Mazda, has reduced the CO2 emissions figures for its Mazda2 and Mazda6 vehicles, meaning fleets and company car driver will make savings on running costs. The lower emissions levels mean that Vehicle Excise Duty is lower and, for company car drivers, there is a reduced benefit-in-kind tax on some models.
Owners of the Mazda6 2.2-litre 5-door diesel will benefit from a £15 a year saving on road tax as the drop in emissions results in the model dropping from Band F to Band E. The Mazda6 2.2-litre 5-door diesel 129ps TS will deliver a saving of £3.31 per month on BIK tax, which amounts to £39.66 per year for basic rate tax payers and £6.61 per month (£79.32 per year) for higher rate tax payers. The new ratings will also translate into National Insurance savings for employers.
The Mazda2 manual 1.5-litre petrol models have seen a drop to 132g/km CO2 and are now in the 16% BIK tax bracket for 2011/12. The model was previously in the 17% bracket, emitting 135g/km of CO2. Drivers of the Mazda2 1.5-litre 3-door Sport will be saving £2.13 per month if they pay basic rate and £4.26 per month if they pay higher rate. Those driving a 5-door Sport of the same engine size and type will be able to save £2.19 per month (basic) and £4.38 per month (higher).
In additions, all 1.3-litre models have seen a CO2 reduction of 119g.km to 115g/km and all 1.5-litre automatic models have decreased emissions from 146g/km to 145g/km.
Steve Jelliss, Mazda Fleet and Remarketing Director, said: “At a time when corporate and personal budgets are being squeezed, Mazda customers are able to benefit from cash savings through these emission cuts.
“The Mazda range is already well-known for its style, specification and reliability, and this development further enhances our value for money credentials.”
