THE Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV became the best-selling vehicle eligible for the Government’s Plug-In Car Grant in July, beating the Nissan Leaf and Toyota Prius, according to the latest figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
And the plug-in hybrid vehicle is proving a hit at Phoenix Mitsubishi in Paisley and Stirling which have already exceeded sales expectations since they went on sale in early June.
The SMMT statistics show the highly anticipated Outlander PHEV took 43% of all the successful applications for the Government's £5,000 grant in July. Prices for the Outlander PHEV range from £28,249 to £34,999 (post-grant).
The Outlander PHEV has received huge levels of interest, driven by the vehicle’s outstanding fuel consumption of 148mpg and low emission credentials of 44g/km, meaning no Vehicle Excise Duty is payable.
Dom D’Agostino Dealer Principal at the dealership in Phoenix Retail Park, Linwood Road, Paisley, said:
“The addition of the game-changing Outlander PHEV to our vehicle line-up has helped boost Mitsubishi brand awareness, increasing sales of all models in our range.
The Outlander PHEV is the first SUV plug-in hybrid in the UK market that boasts 4WD capability with an EV range of 32.5 miles and emissions as low as 44g/km. The vehicle is extraordinary, it’s very different to other hybrids and our customers love it.“
There’s more good news on the financial front too. With just 5 per cent benefit in kind (BIK) over 12 months, a company car driver getting behind the wheel of a PHEV enjoys a virtual pay rise of thousands of pounds per year.
This is an exciting time for the dealerships and Mitsubishi Motors in the UK. Sales volume
has been growing at a rapid rate since the start of 2014. It was the fastest-growing mainstream car brand last year and sales in 2014 are equally impressive, up 32% on 2013.
The latest SMMT sales figures show Mitsubishi passenger car sales were up 197% in July, with all models (Mirage, ASX, Outlander, Shogun and L200) showing an increase.
