Motability is a registered charity, which helps disabled people and their families in the UK to become more mobile. It was set up on the initiative of the Government in 1977 to provide vehicles to disabled people.

Terms have been arranged with motor manufacturers, wheelchair and vehicle adaptation suppliers and insurance companies so that a scheme could be offered that enables people with disabilities to become more mobile. How The Motability Scheme Works: 

If you receive the Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance or the War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement, getting a new car is easier and more affordable than ever. Through Motability, you simply turn part or all of that allowance into the car of your choice.

• 95% of customers choose to lease a car through Motability's Contract Hire agreement, which gives you:
• Over 4,000 brand new cars to choose from
• Insurance, servicing and maintenance 
• Full RAC breakdown assistance
• Annual tax disc
• Tyre and windscreen replacement
• 60,000 mileage allowance over 3 years
• Many adaptations at no extra cost
• You don't have to drive - you can nominate up to two other drivers 

The worry-free policy continues right to the end of your three-year lease with a seamless transfer to your new car. Some customers may prefer to buy their own car, in which case a Hire Purchase lease might be for you. If you choose Hire Purchase, you negotiate the actual purchase price with Phoenix. With Hire Purchase, you will also be responsible for organising and paying for comprehensive insurance, breakdown recovery, your car tax disc, servicing and repairs.
