AS MG celebrates hitting new sales records in the first quarter of 2015, Phoenix MG Paisley is welcoming the launch of the new model MG6.
More new MGs were sold in the first three months of 2015 than in the whole of 2013, continuing the marque’s impressive sales performance during the past 18 months.
But sales performance isn’t the only impressive thing coming out of MG, with the latest version of their award-winning saloon set to hit showrooms soon.
While the original MG6 was hailed for its pricing and drivability, the 2015 model proves MG hasn’t been resting on its laurels. From cosmetic tweaks and an improvement to the already generous specification, to a significant price cut of £3000 and mechanical updates, there’s been a plethora of revisions to what was already a well-received car.
Under the hood the new model offers higher levels of performance, lower emissions, and improved mpg thanks to the intensive development work carried out by engineers based at MG’s Birmingham operation.
Improvements have also been made in drivability making the new MG6 the best balance of driver satisfaction and efficiency yet produced by MG. Considering the original was honoured with the Auto Express Driver Power Best Handling Award, we’re looking forward to getting behind the wheel.
On average the new generation is 75kg lighter than the out-going car and a full 0.5 seconds quicker from 0 to 60mph, taking 8.4 seconds compared to 8.9 in the previous model.
Externally, striking new designs to the body, particularly the front and rear profile, give the car a new look, while distinctive daytime LED running lights means that the new MG6 stands out from the crowd.
Inside looks and feels refreshed. The new instrument cluster is now clearer; redesigned with a modern tunnel-style analogue presentation, while an electronic handbrake gave MG’s designers scope to refresh the cabin layout.
One of the things the team here at Phoenix are most impressed about though is the huge step forward in terms of equipment levels. The fact the entry-level S model (which comes in at £13,995) comes with heated front seats and LED daylight running lights, along with the usual kit you’d expect such as air conditioning, is perhaps the best example of its value offering.
The interior upgrades, including the addition of silver highlights, give an enhanced feeling of quality, while new seat materials give a fresh look and style. Also standard on S models and upwards is an all-new electronic differential, called E-Diff, which works in conjunction with a sophisticated stability control system. This ensures that wheel spin in cornering is kept under control, giving the driver both increased safety and a more involved feel.
The mid-level TS adds part man-made leather seats, rear parking sensors, automatic lights, windscreen wipers, cruise control, auto dimming mirrors and more. It also introduces MG’s all-new touch infotainment system. Move up to the top-level TL, still at only £17,995, and the levels of comfort get higher. The top spec adds luxurious leather seats and powerful HID (high-intensity discharge), which offer a much better illumination of the road ahead. ‘Bending lights’, which are integrated into the HID units, have a speed sensitive cornering function which follow the turn of the front wheels giving the driver a clear view of potential hazards when cornering in the dark.
It operates up to speeds of 40km/h when reflectors cleverly focus the light source to follow the road as the car turns. This improves both safety and driver well-being by taking much of the stress out of night-time driving. A rear camera, dual zone climate control and electric seats are all standard on the top-of-the range MG6 TL, which is distinguished by a new chrome grille.
MG are delivering these improvements together with a substantial price drop over the previous model, with like-for-like savings of a massive £3000, making it one of the best-value saloons available to buy today.
Phoenix MG Sales Manager Martin McGuire said: “We’re hugely impressed by the marked improvements to be seen on the new MG6. It’s even more amazing when you look at these improvements while considering the huge reduction in price that have been announced.
“The team can’t wait to get our hands on the vehicle so we can offer customers an incredible value-for-money car with market leading specification levels.”
